As women grow older, the effects of pregnancy, nursing and sheer gravity take their toll. A breast lift, or mastoplexy, can raise and reshape a sagging breast providing a higher, more youthful appearance.
There are actually a variety of techniques for breast lifting. But a lift is not augmentation. Keep in mind that this procedure lifts breasts to a higher position but will not increase fullness. To increase fullness, a combination of a lift and breast augmentation with implants can be considered.
How It Works
This procedure removes fat, tissue and skin from the breasts, placing them in a higher position on the chest wall. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position so as to improve appearance.
Breast reduction and breast lifting procedures are usually done in the operating suite under general anesthesia. Most insurance reimbursed cases are performed in the hospital setting, while cosmetic procedures are usually performed at The Carney Center.
After Treatment
Keep activity levels to a minimum on the day following surgery. Normal exercise levels can resume as early as a week later and gradually increase over a six-week period. You may expect to return to work approximately two days after surgery.
Is a Breast Lift Right for You?
In most instances, insurance companies will not pay for a breast lift, except in certain circumstances such as if a post mastectomy reconstructed breast does not match the opposite breast.
