Forehead Surgery (Browlift)

Frown lines, a furrowed brow or drooping forehead can often make you look sad, tired or angry.

A forehead or browlift, which corrects a sagging browline, softens horizontal creases and erases frownlines, may be the answer. Browlifts may also be performed in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery, depending on what your goals are for your appearance.

How It Works
Forehead procedures are performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. You will sleep through the entire process and have no recollection of the procedure.

Dr. Carney uses an endoscopic technique, which calls for limited incisions and results in less bruising and swelling, as well a quicker recovery than more traditional methods. Upper facial rejuvenation usually takes between one and two hours depending upon the extent of the surgery. If all four eyelids are done in combination with the forehead, the procedure will be approximately two hours.

After Treatment
After surgery, you will remain at home for two to three days with your head elevated and cool compresses on your eyes. It’s advisable to limit reading and television viewing to prevent significant eyestrain. Otherwise, you can resume most normal activities and shower on the day following surgery (it’s fine if the sutures get wet).

Your activity level can increase on a daily basis, though you shouldn’t resume strenuous exercise for two to four weeks.

Is Forehead Surgery Right for You?
Usually men and women who are in the 40-60 year age range are the most common candidates for a forehead lift, although there is no age limit to the procedure. Consider this procedure if you have sagging or low eyebrows, deep horizontal forehead creases or furrows between your eyebrows or across your nose. As with any surgical procedure, patients should be physically and emotionally healthy and have realistic expectations of surgery.

If you suffer from high blood pressure, blood clotting problems or a tendency to form excessive scars, a forehead lift may not be right for you.
