Liposuction
“The decision to have liposuction was made so much easier by
Dr. Carney and his staff. The procedure resulted in a brand new me – from how I look in my clothes to a whole new attitude on life. Big difference!”

Liposuction, also known as suction-assisted lipectomy, fat suction, or lipoplasty, is a body contouring technique which removes localized fat deposits and reshapes specific areas of the body. Liposuction can be performed on the face, neck, breast, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, legs and ankles.
How it Works
The Carney Center uses the "tumescent" liposuction technique, which requires minimal incisions and results in less bruising and a quicker recovery time. The incisions are very small, inconspicuous and closed with one stitch. Other procedures may be combined with liposuction, such as lower tummy tuck or medial thigh tuck, in order to eliminate unwanted excess skin.
Liposuction may be done under local anesthesia, but most patients prefer general anesthesia. A local anesthetic will leave you awake but relaxed throughout the procedure, with minimal discomfort. If you choose a general anesthetic you will sleep through surgery.
After Treatment
Most patients are alert and comfortable enough to go home after liposuction surgery. You will need to wear a snug garment to support the surgical area. Plan to return to The Carney Center between two and four days after surgery for a brief check and suture removal.
Most patients are up and moving around the following day. Some patients return to work within two to three days. You may resume near normal activity levels in about a week, however, the extent of your surgery and personal considerations will factor into how quickly you recover. Exercise or strenuous activities may be delayed from two to four weeks following the procedure.
Is Liposuction Right for You?
The best candidates for liposuction are healthy non-smokers within 30% of their ideal weight, but with pockets of excess fat that appear disproportionately large. It's important to be physically and psychologically healthy and have firm and elastic skin,. Hanging skin that won't reshape to your body's new contours may require an additional procedure to remove the excess skin.
