Facial Implants

Facial implants can enhance your appearance and boost self confidence. Whether you are looking to reshape your nose, raise your cheekbones, or reshape your jawline, implants may be just what you need – and they can be used in combination with other procedures and skin rejuvenation techniques to help restore a more youthful look. If you are seeking to enhance your current features and have realistic expectations, contact The Carney Center for a complimentary consultation.

Chin Surgery
Chin implants may take approximately 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, Dr. Carney selects the proper size and shape implant to enhance your appearance and inserts it through a small incision over the front of the jawbone. The chin will be taped after surgery to help reduce swelling. Sutures used inside the mouth will dissolve on their own.

Recovering from Chin Surgery
You may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the affected area for a few days. It is also possible to experience temporary difficulty with smiling or speaking. Dr. Carney will instruct you about dental hygiene, eating, and any restrictions to activity after surgery.

Cheek Surgery
Cheek implants may take approximately about 30 to 45 minutes. When cheek implants are done in combination with another procedure such as a facelift, forehead lift, or eyelid surgery, the implants may be placed through the incisions made for those procedures. Otherwise, an incision is made either inside the upper lip or where the implant is inserted. After surgery, a dressing is applied to minimize discomfort and swelling. Healing time will vary, depending on whether other procedures were performed simultaneously.

Recovering from Cheek Surgery
Dr. Carney will provide you with post-operative instructions. You can expect dietary restrictions and limitations to some activities. Again, this will vary, dependent upon whether another procedure was performed along with your implant surgery. The ability to move your mouth and lips may be temporarily diminished. Sutures inside your mouth will dissolve within approximately 7-10 days.

Lower-Jaw Surgery
Jaw implants take approximately one to two hours. Internal incisions are made on either side of the lower lip, and a pocket is created for the implant. Dissolving sutures disappear within 7-10 days.

Recovering from Jaw Surgery
You can expect swelling immediately following surgery, with it subsiding over a period of several days. During the healing phase, there will be some restrictions to certain activities and diet. You can also expect some limitations in smiling, talking, or moving your mouth for a few days to weeks following surgery. Dr. Carney will instruct you about dental/oral hygiene during recovery.
